Est. Reading Time: 4 minutes

History was made earlier today at HPE Discover 2024 with an epic spectacle that rivaled any Las Vegas has seen before, aimed squarely at tech enthusiasts and futurists. HPE CEO Antonio Neri gave the first-ever keynote at Sphere, welcoming AI pioneer and NVIDIA founder/CEO Jensen Huang as they highlighted the co-engineered solutions for enterprise AI across industries. The next-generation venue and NVIDIA partnership set the perfect stage for the theme of this year’s conference, “Discover What’s Next,” with the conference taking place now through June 20.

Throughout the week HPE will be showcasing several groundbreaking innovations and announcements. Read on for the biggest announcements, top takeaways, and where to catch up with Zerto, so you can stay ahead of the latest in cyber recovery and data protection.

Breaking News & the Biggest Announcements

Zerto Support for Kernel-Based Virtual Machines (KVM)

Broadcom’s acquisition of VMware triggered ripple effects throughout the industry as Broadcom looks to redo pricing and packaging for most of their offerings. This leaves many customers reevaluating their hypervisor of choice and struggling to understand their options.

To help customers meet these challenges, today at HPE Discover, Chris Schin, VP & GM of Data Protection at HPE, announced new plans for Zerto to support Kernel-based Virtual Machines (KVM), a Linux-based virtualization solution. Now, customers seeking an alternative to the cost hikes associated with VMware vSphere licensing will be able to choose a familiar, open-source virtualization solution that evades the dreaded complications that can occur with vendor lock-in. Zerto for KVM will enable continuous data protection and orchestrated recovery for customers investing in open-source virtualization platforms.

Stay tuned—more details, and exact timeline, will be shared soon!

HPE and Zerto Commitment to Simple Solutions with Staying Power

We heard from Matt Boris, VP of Zerto Sales at HPE, and got an insider customer perspective from Christopher Lund, a senior director of engineering in hybrid cloud at Liberty Mutual. By the end of the 45-minute session, customers got the message that HPE has not only heard customer pain points but is planning simple solutions with staying power as a direct result.

  • Unlock the power of HPE’s portfolio and avoid vendor lock-in: Attendees were reassured to learn that flexibility remains a high priority for the roadmap. They heard about strides made in HPE’s continued path of delivering hardware- and software-agnostic solutions, enabling maximum value for customers.
  • Simplify management of protection and recovery: In addition, participants were excited to learn the details about a single global cloud console in HPE GreenLake that can unify visibility for deployments across various platforms and vendors.
  • Enhance cyber resilience capabilities: Attendees heard about leveraging upstream and downstream partners to accelerate the ability to mitigate attacks through rapid air-gapped recovery.

Top Takeaways

In addition to Zerto and data protection announcements, participants are talking about the three program tracks and how they will transform our lives at work: AI, edge, and hybrid cloud.

AI program

This includes AI use cases and best practices from the leaders behind some of the largest generative AI and supercomputing projects in the world. Speakers from NVIDIA, Idaho National Laboratory, and others are forecasting the future of AI for the next five years, exploring AI-readiness in the public sector, and discussing the pressures that business leaders face with effectively integrating and monetizing AI.

Edge program

This explores how secure connectivity, edge computing, and AI at the edge enable real-time decision-making and create competitive advantage across industries. The program covers topics like Zero Trust networking to avoid security breaches and designing data center networks for AI workloads.

Hybrid cloud program

This deals head-on with the challenges of adopting a hybrid strategy, which now includes helping customers navigate VMware changes and save on cost. The program also includes firsthand accounts of real-world hybrid cloud security incidents and how HPE GreenLake can accelerate AI to unlock financial and technical capacities.
