VMworld Wrap-up: #Journey2Cloud & Back
From game-changing product announcements, to swag-wars, heartwarming support for Hurricane Harvey victims, amazing presentations, epic parties, to twitter trolls and more… VMworld 2017 was certainly a show for the books.
VMware’s biggest announcements at VMworld 2017 highlighted the acceptance by VMware that customers are not comfortable locking in to one vendor for everything and hybrid cloud really is what customers prefer. In addition to their current cloud offerings, VMware announced the availability of VMware Cloud on AWS, a partnership with Google and Pivotal for containers and NSX emerged as a core component for VMware’s hybrid cloud plans because of NSX’s ability to streamline networking.
The hybrid cloud, customer choice and flexibility have been Zerto’s mission from day one and it’s good to see the platform vendors coming around. In fact, Zerto Virtual Replication 5.5 (ZVR) was highlighted in the Disaster Recovery with NSX breakout session showing that Zerto’s focus on agnostic platforms enables our customers to leverage ZVR for replication and orchestration between hybrid clouds.
ZVR 5.5 empowers businesses to move beyond simple disaster recovery and leverage hybrid cloud strategies to enable resilient infrastructure that’s scalable and ready for any change. With bi-directional replication to and from Microsoft Azure, substantial improvements to our AWS offering, and powerful analytics to augment environment visibility across increasingly complex infrastructures, this version of ZVR provides the stepping stone for enterprises to confidently adopt the hybrid cloud.
DAY 1 Rocked – literally – as we had not one but two rockin’ cover bands for Zerto’s notorious after party. Chick Jagger and Voyage, a Stones and Journey tribute band (respectively) brought the roof down with some timeless jams. Twitter trolls provided some unexpected, but hilarious entertainment to the evening with our event hashtag – #journey2cloud
DAY 2, However, was all business. The team welcomed thousands of visitors to the booth for great conversations and, of course, to pick up one of our famous Master of Disaster t-shirts. Whether you stopped in for an executive meeting, a demo of the technology, or just to say hello to some old friends, there was never a dull moment at booth #630.
DAY 3 Was a particularly exciting day thanks to all you attendees! Every year, we sponsor our “Red Wed” event in which we encourage everyone to come by the booth on the last day wearing Zerto Red for a live drawing. This year, we gave away some awesome prizes including predator drones, Nintendo Switches™ and Bose Soundlinks™, $1000 cash money, and more! Congratulations to all winners for coming out on top! Your luck in Vegas was slightly better than mine…
Helping With More Than IT Disasters
I wanted to end on what I think, however, was my personal favorite part of the show. As you all know, Hurricane Harvey devastated coastal regions of Texas, Missouri, and Mississippi last week. Our thoughts, prayers, good vibes, and positive energy goes out to all of those directly and indirectly affected by the flood. Zertonians, partners, and the VMworld community are coming together to drive donations to support the victims of the storm, with donations being match by Zerto up to $50,000. To donate please visit https://www.zerto.com/ and click “Donate Now”.
