VMWare RDMs mounting during backups

  • Our backup solution uses VMWare RDMsĀ  that temporarily mount during nightly backups and then dismount once completed. Is there a method to exclude these temporary RDM’s from being Protected within a VPG?

Hi John – Unfortunately there is not at this time. Since Zerto is monitoring VM HW changes, to the solution this looks like a new disk being added onto a VM that the user has marked for protection so the system looks to replicate the new volume so it can get consistent with the rest of the VM and VPG. If the disk could be added/removed without being visible to vSphere (for example, mounted from within the guest OS) then this could provide a workaround. — Justin

Thanks Justin. Can this feature be added in future releases? These are disks only for the purpose of backups.

I understand that Zerto is protecting the VM and it’s changes, however, if the disks are present for the duration of a backup and then removed, the VPG will result in a failed state and cannot proceed with any other replications.
