SQL Database on an external SQL

  • The ZVM for our production site has its SQL Database on an external SQL 2008 R2 SP1. We need to migrate this to a newer SQL 2016 SP2 server as the 2008 server is due to be decommissioned.

Do you have a KB or guide for this process?

    Hello,

    Bar from Zerto here,

That question has been raised in our forum before, feel free to review this topic:

if you have further questions let us know.

    Hi Bar,

This KB seems to reference moving from the embedded SQL server to an external SQL Server. I need to move from one external server to another. Assume I can’t use the migration tool for this as it references the embedded DB?

    Thanks

    Hello Richard,

Please take a snapshot of the ZVM VM, a copy of the original Zerto database file, and a copy of the storage_properties.xml first.

You can simply migrate the Database to the new SQL server.
Once migrated, run the Reconfigure process using the Zerto Diagnostics tool on the relevant Zerto machine.
In one of the steps in that process, you should be able to select the location of the relevant new SQL server.

You may also have to edit the C:\Program Files\Zerto\Zerto Virtual Replication\storage_properties.xml document to point to the new Database server.
