Dear all
Hi
i want to know can zerto exclude file or path during replication for linux vm ?
for example i have a linux vm now i want replicate this vm but don’t want replicate this path :
/etc/sys-config/network-script/ifcfg-eth0
can do it?
Michael WDecember 18, 2017 03:40:29 PMZerto Virtual Replication (ZVR) works at the hypervisor or platform layer and protects the whole VM and all its disks. It does not work at the guest OS file layer. The hypervisors and platforms supported today with ZVR 5.5 are VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V, Amazon Web Services, and Microsoft Azure. Please see the MyZerto Technical Documentation section for more information.
If you are trying to exclude ifcfg-eth0 because you want a different network configuration on VM recovery during a test or disaster, please know that ZVR can execute network reconfiguration as part of the VM recovery plan, so excluding that path would not be needed.
Babak SDecember 18, 2017 04:06:42 PMso thanks
but that path was an example i have many vms that there are different applications on them and there are a few config file on those that in config files had to insert ip adress i wanted replicate my vms with zerto and exclude that files
can zerto help me ?
BR
Michael WDecember 18, 2017 04:28:33 PMI believe Zerto can help. ZVR supports script execution on recovery. For a basic example, you could have a bash script that changes a config file. I can have your local Zerto team reach out to you to discuss if you wish?
Babak SDecember 18, 2017 04:37:30 PMin above post you said : “ZVR can execute network reconfiguration as part of the VM recovery plan”
can zerto replicate LINUX vm and up it on drsite without run script ??
BR
Michael WDecember 18, 2017 04:43:59 PMZerto can replicate any VM on vSphere or Hyper-V. The guest OS does not matter for replication.
The guest operating system does matter for network reconfiguration. The ZVR interoperability matrix which lists the versions of Linux that ZVR can execute IP reconfiguration against without a script can be found at http://s3.amazonaws.com/zertodownload_docs/Latest/Zerto%20Virtual%20Replication%20Operability%20Matrix.pdf
Babak SDecember 18, 2017 05:04:04 PM1- how can check data of replicated vm ?
2- can do replication when replicate vm is power on ?
3- can power on replicated vm after replication finished manually or will power on automatically ?

Michael WDecember 18, 2017 05:20:46 PMGreat questions. You can validate with live testing and you can replicate powered-on VMs. I suggest you see Zerto Virtual Replication architecture and a demonstration of the software. You can do this all on YouTube at the links below:

can you answer this question when my replicated vm has been create on Drsite now when want do replication my replicate vm can power.on ?
BR
Babak SDecember 19, 2017 05:01:34 AMcan you help me ???
can i power on replicated machine during replication ?
BR
Hello Babak,
With “during replication” do you mean whilst the initial replication is still ongoing? If so, no.
You will have to wait for initial sync to finish and a checkpoint created in the journal before being able to failover the machine and power on.

Babak SDecember 19, 2017 09:28:59 AMthanks
My means is not in initial replication
i said after initial sync for other replication second or next replication can replication do while replicated vm is in power on mode ?
or during any replication initial replication or other had to power.off vm ?
2 – i don’t want do fail over i want every 2 days power.on my replicated machine on DRsite for test service can i do power.on manually ?
3- in previous post said can execute linux script on linux vm during replication
now during replication my replicated machine is power.off while that is power.off how can excute script?

Shashidhar KDecember 20, 2017 01:20:50 PMHi Babak,
In general operation, you will not see a replica VM on the DR/destination site (only during a Failover Test/Live Failover/Move operation). You will use the ZVR interface to initiate a Failover Test, which will build and power on a replica VM in the DR site, on the isolate test network you selected during the VPG creation. Once this Failover Test has built your VM(s), you can get into the VM and run your tests and verification. When complete, simply “Stop” the test, and ZVR will automatically Power Off and delete the DR/replica VM.
Hope this helps! Thanks for all your questions and detail!

but i come here a difference between veeam and zerto
in veeam after create replication vm we can see replicated vm on DRsite even we can run it manually but in zerto we can not check replicated machine in DRsite and have to do failover that is important for me can see replicated machine on DRsite and can power.on it manually
BR
Michael WDecember 20, 2017 04:30:11 PMThere are many differences between Zerto and Veeam, such as no need to do manual checks any more like you are doing with Veeam today. Zerto can automate the test of your VM so you do not have to do it manually.
I very much strongly suggest you see our architecture, “how Zerto works”, and a demo of Zerto, by visiting the links I posted above. You will see many more differences and I hope you will like them.
