Can zerto exclude file or path during replication

Zerto Virtual Replication (ZVR) works at the hypervisor or platform layer and protects the whole VM and all its disks. It does not work at the guest OS file layer. The hypervisors and platforms supported today with ZVR 5.5 are VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V, Amazon Web Services, and Microsoft Azure. Please see the MyZerto Technical Documentation section for more information.

If you are trying to exclude ifcfg-eth0 because you want a different network configuration on VM recovery during a test or disaster, please know that ZVR can execute network reconfiguration as part of the VM recovery plan, so excluding that path would not be needed.

I believe Zerto can help. ZVR supports script execution on recovery. For a basic example, you could have a bash script that changes a config file. I can have your local Zerto team reach out to you to discuss if you wish?

Zerto can replicate any VM on vSphere or Hyper-V. The guest OS does not matter for replication.

The guest operating system does matter for network reconfiguration. With “during replication” do you mean whilst the initial replication is still ongoing? If so, no.

You will have to wait for initial sync to finish and a checkpoint created in the journal before being able to failover the machine and power on.

In general operation, you will not see a replica VM on the DR/destination site (only during a Failover Test/Live Failover/Move operation). You will use the ZVR interface to initiate a Failover Test, which will build and power on a replica VM in the DR site, on the isolate test network you selected during the VPG creation. Once this Failover Test has built your VM(s), you can get into the VM and run your tests and verification. When complete, simply “Stop” the test, and ZVR will automatically Power Off and delete the DR/replica VM.

There are many differences between Zerto and Veeam, such as no need to do manual checks any more like you are doing with Veeam today. Zerto can automate the test of your VM so you do not have to do it manually.
