VSS Agent and Windows Server 2012 R2 Core?
The forum ‘General Discussion’ is closed to new topics and replies.
I have multiple Windows Server 2012 R2 Core instances which are running things like AD DS and SQL Server 2017. I want the application-consistent replication that VSS brings to the table but I am unable to install the Zert0 VSS Agent. When I try to do so I receive this error:
Zerto VSS Agent is not supported on this version of Operating System.
It is my understanding that the Zerto VSS Agent is still not yet compatible with Windows Server 2016 as well.
Will the Zerto VSS Agent be refreshed anytime soon with support for Server Core and 2016 systems?
Thank you,
Andrew
Hey Andrew,
With VSS support being removed from the main Zerto product (it’s now in a separate build only), and the small number of users that actually use it… I doubt it will be updated. (I could be wrong though, as I don’t speak for our product team).
My recommendation, however, is to use a powershell script that leverages our REST API. You can have the powershell command create a VSS snapshot, and then call the Zerto REST checkpoint creation API, then use VSS to remove the snapshot.
That should accomplish the same thing but in a Windows Core friendly way.
Do we have a sample powershell script?
