Renaming a protected VM
The forum ‘Support Q & A’ is closed to new topics and replies.
Please clarify if we enable VPG Sync on virtual Machine and rename the VM name and Windows name will zerto be smart to pick up the new names or will it treat it as a new server and again do a full sync?
Hi,
Renaming a VM which is already protected in a VPG will not break the VPG nor do you need to make any configuration changes.
Zerto will immediately detect the changes and update accordingly.
Hi Team, if the VM operating System upgraded from windows 2012 to windows 2016 and the VM is renamed? Will the OS upgrade effect the Zerto replication how can we ensure it is syncing to the new windows 2016 server
Hello,
As long as your Zerto version supports Windows 2016 it should work properly ( this can be checked in on our ‘Interoperability Matrix for Zerto Environments’: http://s3.amazonaws.com/zertodownload_docs/Latest/Zerto%20Virtual%20Replication%20Operability%20Matrix.pdf?cb=1569326392).
With that being said, I would advise you rename the VM after or before upgrading.
If the VM you upgrade is the ZVM VM, you can read about relevant information in our KB, Upgrading guest OS of the ZVM VM machine:
