DNS best practices for Failover to Azure

  • I’m pretty familiar with how DNS works, but everytime I fail over my DNS servers to azure something weird happens and my vra’s and host loose connection to everything. It makes sense if Im failing over  all DNS servers to azure . I have configured the IP addresses when it fails over to azure as well and have inputted the information into my DHCP server as well. Its as if for the 2 to 3 minutes everything stops working. So… I was thinking about setting up an alternate DNS server in azure so that there is always a DNS connection during a fail over. Has Anyone else experienced this?

    Hi Devon,

I believe you have spoken with my colleague Derek regarding this.

Were the two of you able to resolve this?  Do you mind posting your solution here for future inquiries?

    Thank you!

This link from Microsoft should help you:

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/virtual-network/virtual-networks-name-resolution-for-vms-and-role-instances#name-resolution-using-your-own-dns-server

Refer to the section called – “Name resolution using your own DNS server”.
