Long Term Retention

  • Posting this topic on behalf of Steve

    Hi,
I currently use Long Term Retention and backup to SMB shares. One of the SAN devices is becoming full so I would like to relocate the backups from one SMB share to another.
Can I simply copy the SMB folder contents from the old share to the new one and then repoint the Zerto Long term retention to the new SMB share? Will this keep the retention periods in place so that older backups are still removed as they expire?
    Thanks
    Steve

    Hello Steve,

You won’t be able to copy the sets over to another share.  Your best bet is to create a new share and repository pointing to that new share and send all new retention sets to that new one.  Then as the old sets expire from the old share our garbage collection will clear those out removing them from the share.
