Question on ZVRA build + move

We’ve recently added a new vmware host to our cluster and am getting ready to install a new z-vra and have a question about best practices and/or how other admins build their systems.

Specifically, is it better to put your z-vra’s on their own volumes separate from the vpg data? Or doesn’t it really matter?

Also, I’ve got a volume/lun mapping issue on my storage system so I’ve been creating new lun’s and moving my vpg’s to them then deleting the old lun’s. However, I also have my z-vra’s on the same bad-mapped lun’s. What is the best way to either move the z-vra’s to a new lun, or do I have to delete the z-vra and re-create? If I have to delete/re-create, what is the best way to do that?

Mike from Zerto here.
1. You can put your VRAs on any datastore you would like. The VRA is a relatively small box, so its storage footprint is minor.
2. You can Storage vMotion the VRA VM to the new LUN, Zerto will pick up that change automatically. If Storage vMotion is not an option, then deleting/recreating is also an option. For directions on uninstalling and installing VRAs, please see the following links:
