Site Peering with different ZVM vesion

  • The scenario,

I have two different versions (5.5 & 6.5) of Zerto Virtual Replication Instances in the environment.

The ZVM 5.5 instance configured on VMware vSphere 6.5 & vCSA 6.5 – Production Site

Another ZVM instance support VMWare vSphere 6.5 & vCSA 6.7 – DR Site

    The questions are:

Can two different versions of ZVM paired ?

Is It compatibility issues between them ?

    Thanks !

Hi NoorAzam – Zerto supports running in backwards compatibility (BC) mode, however this is only within 1 major release of each other. More details can be found here: http://s3.amazonaws.com/zertodownload_docs/Latest/Upgrading%20Zerto%20Virtual%20Replication.pdf

In particular, this portion of the document:

You can upgrade from version N to the next version (N+1) of Zerto Virtual Replication including to any update within the
current version. You cannot do an N+2 upgrade directly

    Hi Justin,

Sorry, if the question wasn’t clear. I would like to pair the site from the ZVM which has 5.5 version (Production) to the DR ZVM which has 6.5 version.

Or is it like the ZVM at DR which is a 6.5 version and ZVM at Production which is a 5.5 can’t be paired since the production and the DR has N+2 versions of difference ?

    Thanks, Noor

Hi Noor, The latter is correct – the 5.5 ZVM would need to be upgraded to a 6.0 version (or upgraded again to a 6.5 version) before it can successfully pair to the 6.5 version ZVM.
