upgrade Operating System (Windows)

  • What would be better way to upgrade Operating System (Windows Server 2008r2 to 2k12/2k16 ) on Zerto SQL Database Servers:- Should we go for InPlace Upgrade or should we built new server with updated OS and migrate sql to new Server?
Also,we need to upgrade SQL Version on the Database from SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1(standard edition) to Microsoft SQL Server 2016 RTM(standard edition)

    Hello,

    Contara Zerto from Zerto Support.

    Either direction will be fine.

    Option 1:

The easy way is by upgrading the existing SQL server (upgrade the SQL software and Windows OS).  That way you don’t have to worry much about the SQL credential and modify the ZVM configuration file (storage_properties.xml).

    Option 2.

Migrating From One Microsoft SQL Server to Another.

I believe Microsoft SQL has a migrating database tool.  You might want to check the tool.

Note: Please make sure you take a snapshot on SQL Server VM and ZVM VM  before you do any upgrade or migration.

    Thank you.
