Zerto replicate only used space in a disk?

  • Will Zerto replicate the entire blocks in a disk (vmdk) or only used space in a disk?
Say.. I have 100 GB disk with 20 GB Used. Will it replicate the entire 100 GB blocks or only 20 GB ?

    Hello,

    From Zerto support.

It depends on how the disk(vmdk) provision.  If the disk is provision “Thin”, it will just replicate 20GB, not 100GB. The “Thick” provision will replicate the entire 100 GB blocks.

    Thank you.

When we convert from thin to thick through zerto..( a disk with 20 GB used capacity out of 100 GB total size), you mean to say it will replicate only 20 GB?

    Hello,

As for the replication, as my colleague mentioned ” If the disk is provision “Thin”, it will just replicate 20GB, not 100GB. The “Thick” provision will replicate the entire 100 GB blocks.”

The conversion entirely depend on you. If you convert the disk from ‘thin’ to ‘thick’ then the entirety of the size allocated to that disk will be replicated (from your example, all of the 100GB).
